Details:

This engine ran fine before I parted out the yard vacuum. The old seal has not been disturbed, so the crankshaft Hans't buggered by bungled attempts at replacement, and aluminum case is intact un fiddled with. This seal would have to be replaced before putting the engine back into service. Following initial cold start-up after long sitting, it didn't smoke and wan't noisy.

My opinion is that the donor machine wan't used all much. MTD made these machines for Sears with Tecumseh engines. However, the bottom oil seal around crankshaft leaked badly. YTPXS 1951BB.

This listing is for a Sears Craftsman / Tecumseh made yard vacuum 4.5 HP engine. If yours looks like this, it probably fits but cross reference part numbers just to be sure. It looked like some wood y debris got wrapped around the crankshaft and injured seal membrane. While also making the same design carrying different brand names, like Troy Bolt, Cub Cadet, etc.

It started fairly easily after a long period of disuse. See the condition above, but I will repeat it here. Sears Craftsman part number 143.004500. This has a stepped crankshaft end and of course its vertical shaft unit.
